Why is an engagement session important?

You’ve got the ring, you set the date, you booked the venue, you booked the photographer (hopefully it’s me! ?) and now it’s time for your engagement session! Why is an engagement session important? I absolutely LOVE doing engagement sessions. I love spending those 90 or so minutes with you walking and talking, finding amazing light and locations. I know not every photographer will agree but I highly believe an engagement session is vital to your wedding photography experience and this is why I include a complimentary engagement session with all of my full day wedding coverage collections. Below are a few of my top reasons why I believe engagement sessions are important.

Celebrate your new life together.

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, stressful and take up a ton of time. I highly recommend you treat your engagement shoot as an event towards your wedding day. Scheduling your hair and makeup trials on this day is a great way to ensure you’ll be photo-ready. Pamper yourself and then guys, take your lady out on a date. You’ll be dressed up and looking amazing, take a little time to celebrate your relationship, your love and take a moment to breathe!

It gives us a chance to get to know each other.

Not only does this give me time to get to know you, but you also get a chance to know me. I love hearing all the details. How you met, how the proposal went, all the things you love to do together! Who wants a stranger following them around on their wedding day? I don’t! This is the time I really get to know my clients as people and not just a bride and groom. We connect on such a different level than photographer and client. 

I learn what your insecurities are. And what you love about yourself!

This is a huge one and I can personally attest, I have things I’m very insecure about. It’s human nature. Being vulnerable to those insecurities helps me know exactly what to watch out for and give you the best possible photos of yourselves. I know a ton of tricks to help you look your best. Even the most simple things like which side of your face you favor is super important! 

Most couples have never had a professional photoshoot.

And that’s ok! That’s why you have me to talk you through it the entire way and why I do engagement sessions. This is the time we’ll talk about posing, lighting, process, etc. Trust me when I say this is going to be painless and fun, I swear it will be! By the end of your engagement session, you’ll be an absolute pro and ready for your wedding day! I’ll arrive on your wedding day already knowing how you two interact, what your best poses are and how to photograph you in a genuine way!
